“If you’re not interested in approaching the ragged edge of control where instinct and euphoria set you free from time and consciousness, you would in all honesty be better off in another class… But if you’re willing to ride the wave, and let the wave ride you, if you want to write from the gut, from the soul, then reach deep into the tiger’s fur and hold on tight, because we’re all in for a wild ride.”
- Derrick Jensen,
Walking on Water
My name is Stacey Engels: I am a writer, workshop leader, speaker, consultant, and teacher.
I am primarily a playwright, though also write fiction, non-fiction and screenplays. I also just got myself into a poetry reading.
I’m the Founder and Artistic Director of rEvolution Arts & Integration. I teach/have taught creative writing to the elderly, people with disabilities, women in an Alternative To Incarceration program, individuals with early stages Alzheimer’s, teens and developing and professional writers. I’m a member of PEN American Center, active with the Readers & Writers and Prison Writing Programs, and am on the Advisory Board of Warrior Writers.
Writing and reading are ways in which we come to know who we are and stake our place in this world. I consider it a gift to have an ability for working closely with writers of all kinds and participating in their processes of self-discovery, self-expression and self-realization.
